Beyonce, Mariah, J.Lo And More On Being A Mom

With Mother’s Day right around the corner, we’re celebrating with a look at some of our favorite moms.

The first time mom can’t seem to stop talking about Blue Ivy. From crediting the little one with her sudden affinity for flat shoes to helping her earn the title of the World’s Most Beautiful Woman in 2012, Blue has been a huge influence on her. Now Bey is even saying that her baby girl’s been helping her write material for an upcoming album.

“I make up songs… they become the ‘change a diaper’ song, the ‘bathing’ song, the ‘go to sleep’ song, the ‘I want to hear you coo’ song,” Beyoncé told People Magazine. “She loves it. She tries to come in and give her little ad-libs.”

Mariah Carey

In the May issue of Shape, Carey admits that after having her twins, Moroccan and Monroe, last year, she feels better than ever about her body. But the singer, who’s working on new music, admits it wasn’t easy to get her pre-baby confidence back.

“I have such empathy for people who need to lose a lot of weight, because I know what they’re going through,” she told the mag. “I remember thinking at the time, ‘I’ll never look or feel the same again.'”

Carey quickly turned to Jenny Craig to help her lose 30 pounds and is now the company’s spokeswoman.

The singer, who gave birth to her daughter, Maxwell Drew Johnson on May 1, shared her first thoughts on motherhood with her twitter followers:

The first time mom has also gushed that her little pride and joy is already a total Daddy’s girl. Not that this is any surprise to Simpson, who back in March told People Magazine her fiancé, Eric Johnson, would be an amazing dad.

“I can’t wait to see if he can master ponytails and braids!” she told the mag.

Stefani is a musician and a fashion designer, but she’ll always be a mother first. The singer, whose band
No Doubt is releasing their first album in ten years (releasing a new untitled album) on September 25, told InStyle last year that her two boys Kingston, 6, and Zuma, 3, are always her number one priority.

“The thing I’d like to do is enjoy these boys while they’re young—so I don’t regret I was working too much when they’re big and don’t want to cuddle with me anymore,” she said. “Being a mother is probably the most challenging thing I do.”

Jennifer Lopez

The American Idol judge doesn’t like to be too far from her 2-year-old twins, Max and Emme. In fact this summer, the singer is bringing them out on the tour with her. The mom, who’s also promoting her new baby-centric move, What To Expect When You’re Expecting, is perfecting the art of balancing motherhood and career.

“My main priority now is that my kids are happy; that’s my number-one focus in life,” the single mom told Redbook. “Are these little people happy, content, and getting everything they need? Everything after that is secondary. Before, my work was my main priority — even above myself.”

Alanis Morissette

The new music featured on Alanis’ new album, Havoc and Bright Lights, is due in large part to her 1-year-old son Ever.

“This record, as always, is a snapshot of what I currently obsess about, care about, and what strikes me at 4 in the morning in my most introspective moments,” Morissette explained in a statement on the album. “It is my emotional, psychological, social and philosophical commentary through song.”

7. Alicia Keys

Keys knew being a mom would be fun, but after having her son, Egypt in 2010 she admits it’s better than she could have ever imagined.

“It’s all the things everyone ever said, but you don’t know it until you’re there,” she told Essence Magazine last year. “It’s a really special time, and I feel so honored that I get to help somebody in this world find his wings, and navigate and learn happiness, and be loved. Actually, he’s helping me learn, because I’m smarter now.”

8. Pink

Pink always speaks her mind and last year right after having her her baby girl, Willow Sage the first time mom took to Twitter to share her first thoughts on motherhood.

9. Jennifer Hudson

After having her son, David, in 2009, Hudson got serious about getting healthy.

“Motherhood brought tremendous responsibilities, but none greater than the obligation I felt to get healthy and be there for my son,” the singer told Good Housekeeping. “David deserved to have a mama who could run after him without getting winded or getting tired, to have a role model who could teach him to make healthy food choices. I needed him to grow up with a mama who always would be there for him by caring enough about herself to take control of her health and her eating.”

Hudson, who is now a spokeswoman for Weight Watchers, later went on to lose 80 pounds with the program.

10. Christina Aguilera

Aguilera might have been unimpressed with the guys from The Wanted, but there’s one little man in her life who she’s always excited to see, her 4-year-old son, Max.

“My whole goal in life is to better myself as a person,” she told People in 2009. “Having a child is a real eye-opener. It also gives you a new sense of beauty, because you feel more centered. I feel a deeper sense of happiness.
