You may have just heard the name Britt Nicole, but the seasoned performer has already sold over a million digital tracks. This North Caroline native is ready to step right into the spotlight with her single “Gold.”
The track, similar in its uplifting message to Katy Perry’s “Firework” or Rihanna’s “Diamonds,” is already a favorite among her devoted fans, who have taken to showing up for her concerts wearing gold crowns.
“The song is all about knowing your worth,” Nicole told Radio.com. “I wrote the song on a day when I was having a bad day. I wasn’t feeling confident in who I was. You know those days when you listen to all the negative kind of thoughts about yourself…Not only was I feeling that way, I was getting a lot of messages from fans who were writing letters and coming up to me at the shows saying, ‘I’m being bullied in school. My parents are walking through a divorce. I’m struggling with cutting or an eating disorder.’ All these different, really big issues that my fans were telling me, ‘I’m dealing with these things.’”
The video references those problems, unabashedly showing a series of outsiders and teenagers dealing with serious mental health issues — and their gold plated accessories.
“Gold” is taking off — with over 500K views already on YouTube and her album Gold to be released on February 26, she’s on her way.
