Only 7% of Kids Today Will Pick the Same Career as Their Parents

No matter how much your kids look up to you, they’re probably not going to wind up following your career path. But depending on how miserable you are at work, that might be a good thing.

According to a new study, only 7% of kids today will end up in the same job as their mother or father. That means about 13 out of 14 kids will not be in the same career as their parents.

But it’s not entirely on the kids. The study found that 42% of parents actively tell their kids not to do the same job as them, versus 11% who push their kids to follow in their footsteps.

For comparison, in the late 1800s, about HALF of children ended up in the same career as their parents.
