Maria Dennis joined us this morning to share some news about why she hasn’t been in the studio with us for the past few days:
“I am in the hospital…I have just been diagnosed with leukemia. It’s a mind-blower. It really is a mind-blower.
Last week, I went in because I needed to get a routine colonoscopy. My blood work came back all over the ballpark, and they didn’t know why. So they did further tests, one thing led to another, and they decided that I have A.L.L., which is leukemia. It was a shock to me.
But you know what? I’m going to beat this.
I’ll be here for at least three weeks. Week one is almost a wrap…I’ve seen my kids, and I walked them in here, and I said, ‘Here’s where I am. Here’s the lobby, you can press the button, go up to this floor, turn the corner, and that’s where I’m going to be. ‘ And I said to them, ‘You know what? I’m going to lose my hair.’ (And I love my hair. I really do love my hair.) But anyway, I brought a hat out and said, ‘Look, this is what I’m going to look like.’ And I put all my hair up in my hat and they were like, ‘Oh, ok, Mommy.’ And if you just look at it like that…hair will grow back.
My main thing is I gotta be ok for them. I gotta be ok for my boys. They’re 7 and 9, and they need me. And that’s it.”
A note from Jon and Reagan:
Maria will be back with us as soon as possible. We miss her dearly. She is our friend and our sister, and we can’t wait until she’s back in the studio with us where she belongs. We’ll be checking in with her very frequently, even forcing her to play some of our silly radio games with us.
You can send well-wishes and love to her through our Facebook page or through the mail:
