Who Parodied Kanye West’s ‘Famous’ Video Better Colbert or Kimmel?

By Amanda Wicks

Stephen Colbert and Jimmy Kimmel each parodied Kanye’s new “Famous” video on Monday (June 27), which raises the important question: Who did it better?

Both hosts went the obvious route and showed a clip from the video with a new twist at the end. In the same scene each show used, the camera pans across the celebrity-packed bed until it reaches someone new.

Kimmel’s sidekick Guillermo Rodriguez shows up at the end of that show’s parody. But beyond that surprise,┬áKimmel ultimately made it a dig about Bill Cosby, who appears on the far righthand side of the bed. “How did Bill Cosby manage to put all those people to sleep?” he asks at the end of the bit.

Colbert, on the other hand, is the surprise addition in his parody. Unlike the other posh celebrities in bed, however, he sports a breathing strip on his nose. It’s a nice nod to his TV persona, who would be the odd man out if he ever stumbled upon a celebrity orgy. “I wish you could smell it in here,” he tells the camera. “It is like a cage at the zoo. They’re going to have to burn this bed.”

Kimmel’s parody is funny with the Cosby barb adding a distinct twist, but Colbert wins this round. His set-up and his extended “cut scene” land more laughs than Kimmel’s brief surprise. Watch both below and decide for yourself.
