“Sesame Street” Just Canned Three of Their Human Characters

“Sesame Street” is on HBO now, and the producers just announced that Bob, Luis, and Gordon will no longer appear regularly on the show.  Bob was played by 84-year-old Bob McGrath, Luis was 76-year-old Emilio Delgado, and Gordon was 72-year-old Roscoe Orman.

All three have been with the show for over 40 YEARS.  Bob had been a part of “Sesame Street” since it premiered in 1969.  Emilio joined two years later . . . and Roscoe made his debut in 1974.

It doesn’t sound like they wanted to leave.  Bob says, quote, “[It’s undergone] a major turnaround . . . HBO has gotten involved . . . and they let all of the original cast members go, with the exception of Alan Muraoka, who’s probably 20 years younger than the rest of us, and Chris Knowings, who’s also young.”

For what it’s worth, “Sesame Street” says that HBO had nothing to do with the firings, and they don’t have a say in the show’s creative direction.

They also said the three cast members remain a “beloved” part of the family, and will continue to represent them at public events . . . whatever that entails.
