I was so excited and nervous! I finally met my bone marrow donor after 2 years! I flew to Kansas City, MO to meet him and his wife for dinner at The Capital Grille. It was everything I expected and more. He is gracious and kind and he told me, “Why wouldn’t I do all I could do to save a life?” Well, thank you Randy Braun…thank you!
Randy is married to Eileen and they have 3 children, 2 boys and a girl. He was at church one Sunday morning and they were having a bone marrow drive. A local family needed a donor for their child, so he got swabbed. Two years later he got a call that he was a match for someone in need of a bone marrow transplant…that was me. He immediately did all the required blood testing and flew to D.C. almost a month later for his surgery. He went through a surgery for me, a stranger, whom he had never met. Just amazing! He said he was more worried about missing his flight or getting a cold to impede the bone marrow extraction. Those were his worries. “What if I fail in some way, and this person dies?” These are the thoughts of a truly selfless man.
Flash forward a couple of years and there I was…trying to figure out how to thank this man for saving my life. It was hard. Now my children have their mother again. My mother has her daughter back. I could go on and on. I’m just overwhelmed with feeling of true gratitude. True GRATITUDE. May God bless my angel, Randy.”
