“What happened last week at Ghost Ship, it’s shocking. This is our home, these are our people,” frontman Billie Joe Armstrong told the crowd on Saturday night. “My heart just goes out to all the people that perished in that warehouse. These are people that are here looking for themselves, just trying to have a moment where they could all celebrate being artists and being weird and having fun. We have to cherish all the freaks and the weirdos. People need a place.”

Ghost Ship was a converted warehouse where many artists in the area lived and worked. The space caught fire on December 2 and took the lives of 36 people.
