Memorial Day weekend brings out the happy across the country. Perhaps Americans are excited summer is finally around the corner and that means beach, ice cream and BBQ and a 3-day weekend never hurts either. But there’s one thing that can put a major damper on the weekend – not rain, but traffic.
A transportation expert at Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments says if you plan on leaving on a Thursday – head out by noon or don’t bother leaving until after midnight.
If there’s a shortcut, chances are everyone else is on that same route.
Take the scenic route – sure the travel could be longer in miles but could also save time. If you live by a lake or beach – stay home for the weekend and do a day trip leaving Saturday morning. It’s the best of both worlds – time away and no traffic.
Still in some cases – long weekend traffic is unavoidable – so bring games, music, and snacks.
